The Munich Hops Club - Wednesday January 19, 2010

The Munich Hops Club

On Wednesday, January 19th, at 6:00 PM

Featuring:
Stiegl Goldbräu

History

Stiegl Goldbräu is unrivalled in it’s well rounded, balanced and wonderfully thirst-quenching taste. Mildly hopped, with a typical refreshing nose, golden colour, a magnificent fine head and pleasant finish, Stiegl Goldbräu provides world-class beer enjoyment. A wonderful refreshing Salzburg lager beer. Stiegl Goldbräu goes particularly well when served with poultry, roasted meats, and many other traditional dishes..

What to expect:

Pour: Rich golden pour with heavy carbonation and a thick bright white head, mild lacing.

Aroma: Aroma is faint but has a grassy/grainy scent. Light and crisp on the palate, sweet with a slight sticky finish. Flavor has a nice balance of malt and hops. Lightly tart apples and fresh grass come to mind. Mild spiciness.

Smell: Bright honey and blossomy floral notes are fairly prominent. Big full smelling malts, a little hop bitterness. Slight smell of malt. The hops (lemon and other citrus odors) overpower the malt.

Taste: The taste seems full-flavored and yet it is actually very light and softly sweet. Clover honey is a definite suggestion along with a faint hint of jasmine and green grass. Sweet malt flavors combined with a nice bitter aftertaste. The flavor is true to style.

Mouth Feel: Softly carbonated and medium body, quite enhancing. Feels great in the mouthl.

Drinkability: Very very drinkable. Can't get more drinkable than a beer like Stiegl. It is highly drinkable if your intent is to savor its impeccable flavor.

Alcohol Content 4.9%

Price only $15 per person (includes gratuity)

The price includes a stein of beer and complete dinner buffet designed to compliment the beer of the night. Including a locally raised, oven roasted pig cooked in the authentic German style!

The Munich Hops Club - Wednesday December 15, 2010

The Munich Hops Club
On Wednesday, December 15th, at 6:00 PM

Featuring:
Paper City Vienna Lager

History:
Vienna lager is a style of lager beer. It was developed by brewer Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. Named after the city in which it originated, a traditional Vienna lager is brewed using a three step decoction boiling process. Munich, Pilsner, Vienna toasted and dextrin malts are used, as well wheat in some cases. Subtle hops, crisp, with residual sweetness.

The Association of Brewers defines the beer class Vienna lager as a reddish brown or copper colored beer with medium body and slight malt sweetness. The malt aroma and flavor may have a toasted character. Hop bitterness should be clean and crisp. Noble-type hop aroma and flavor should be low or mild. As with most lagers, fruitiness due to esters is a defect. Diacetyl, which can impart a butterscotch aroma and flavor, should not be perceptible.

What to expect:
Pour:
Pours crystal clear, reddish-brown coppery amber in color with a big fine pure white head. The head drops slowly and leaves lots of lace as it falls.

Aroma: Aroma is nice. Floral and herbal hops. Hint of butterscotch, white bread and cracker. Faint toasty notes. Big crackling head diminishes in seconds with nothing to show.

Smell: Initially quite weak, mainly spicy hops but over time light caramelized sugar and smokiness come to the nose. Fairly malty with some caramel notes and a herbal touch.

Taste: There is a nice light bitterness and a bit of caramel in there. Toasted malts, slightly spicy with herbal undertones and a grassy finish. Fairly sweet in general. Hops are barely there but do level out the sweetness. The sweetness takes a while to build and then lingers a bit, but is in no way cloying.

Mouth Feel: Mouth feel is great. Nice light body, silky smooth and almost creamy. Just under medium carbonation level.

Drinkability: Drinkability is good. Nice balance, crisp and refreshing. A tasty lager. An easy drinker, you could easily enjoy several of these.

Alcohol Content 5.4%

Price only $15 per person (includes gratuity)
